Canteen is providing AUD $50,000 in funding to create the Professor Ian Olver AM Psycho-Oncology Research Acceleration Grant for Early Career Researchers. The grant is an AYA Cancer Global Accord initiative and is intended to support the development of innovative international psychosocial research project/s to improve outcomes for young people impacted by cancer.

This grant recognising the incredible contribution of Ian Olver to the field of psycho-oncology is valued at $AUD50,000 and is available to registered attendees of the Methods, models, and measuring what matters in AYA psychosocial oncology research workshop at the 2024 Global Accord Congress in Melbourne. Professor Ian Olver AM is a cancer researcher, bioethicist and medical oncologist, with senior posts in Australia and abroad. He is currently the Director of the Sansom Institute for Health Research in South Australia and was previously CEO of Cancer Council Australia and Chair of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia.

The purpose of the Prof Ian Olver AM Psycho-Oncology Research Acceleration Grant for Early Career Researchers is to provide initial funding for an international collaborative study in AYA psycho-oncology and support an early career researcher to establish an international collaborative research team. The grant will support an early career researcher and their organisations to develop innovative approaches to recognise research priorities, build competitive international research teams, and conduct pilot research to ensure a robust program of research can be undertaken. Importantly, it also aims to strengthen international research collaborations.
